Broccoli for Cats: Nutritional Values and Precautions for Owners

Did you know that some cats love broccoli? My grand kitties sure do! The minute I start steaming the broccoli, they get super excited. Their meows become very loud and intense and they follow every move I make until they get their special treat.

Is broccoli safe for felines to eat? It is in small portions. What do I mean by small portions? I give each cat one small floret that has been broken into tiny pieces. If you give them too much, it may upset their digestive system and lead to gas or diarrhea. Large pieces of broccoli may be a choking hazard for cats or cause gastrointestinal obstruction. I use my fingers to break it up into little pieces.

What are the benefits of broccoli for your feline? It has fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Just remember, their primary nutrition should come from a balanced diet designed for your cat’s needs. If you’re a new cat owner, your veterinarian can guide you.

If you want to give your cat a go at eating broccoli, make sure to steam it and please don’t add seasonings, butter, or oil. Break the broccoli in tiny bite size pieces before giving it to your cat.

Just a small piece of plain steamed broccoli and your cat(s) will thank you! Have you given your cat broccoli? How did your cat respond?

If you’re a cat lover, watch this video. I am a bit prejudiced, but I do think my grand kitties are super cute and oh so smart! They love to jump high and catch things in the air and play with interesting toys.

Are you a lover of felines? If so, comment and tell me all about your cat(s).

*Disclaimer: It’s always best to consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your cat.
